Fall is a big deal in my household.
The kids love carving pumpkin, drinking cider and watching Halloween themed movies.
Lee’s Summit Missouri looks gorgeous in the fall. We actually experience changing leaves and the cold comes quickly. Didier Farms offers a garden center, homegrown vegetables like squash, corn and pumpkins and they host Pumpkinfest starting in September and ending on Halloween. There are pony rides, a five acre corn maze, and a small petting zoo. I have a four, six and seven year old. Pumpkinfest is the highlight of the year for everybody. I make sure to take us right in September. The weather starts cooling down but it isn’t so bad that it isn’t tolerable. The kids can enjoy everything Pumpkinfest has to offer without freezing to death. I usually buy a ton of vegetables that I later use for soups. It is amazing how tasty freshly grown produce is. I love making a hot soup, cranking our gas furnace and getting the kids all warm and snuggled after Pumpkinfest. The kids always end up buying a pumpkin to carve there too. I drag our kitchen table in the living room in front of the heating system and cover it in newspapers. The kids then carve their pumpkins right there and the clean up is easy. Then we can place the pumpkins outside our front door with a candle in it and really feel festive. The kids usually get me to drive them one more time to the event since I love seeing the gardens and picking up squash. I can always freeze it and save it for later.
