The kids planned to tour the Denver Zoo with grandma and grandpa

Last summer, it was the kids’ turn to pick where we were going on holiday.

Some wanted to go to the beach, but we all agreed we would go to Denver, Colorado.

That was where my mum, their grandmother, had relocated with her husband. We’d not seen them in a long time and wanted this visit to be a surprise. We booked all the flights and planned for my brother to pick us up from the airport. He lived in the same city after landing a great job. We flew in late in the afternoon and got to the house at around 4 pm. My mom almost fainted when we rang her bell, and she saw all of us standing there. She faked being mad at me for not telling her we were coming to Denver. Our new grandpa was so happy to see the kids and went about preparing a feast for everyone. I was glad to be indoors because the Denver heat was on another level. The AC unit in their home was excellent, and I finally relaxed. During dinner, the kids began making plans with their grandparents about different places in Denver to tour. We would be there for two weeks, so this was enough time to cover many places. At the top of the list was the Denver zoo, known to have more than 4000 animals. My son wanted to see tigers, and I knew he would not leave the place without doing so. I had no plan of joining them and instead planned to spend the day with my brother doing adult things! He wanted me to see his new home and meet some friends later in the day. That was music to my ears. I needed some adult time.
