The heat and humidity in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is a problem for the majority of the year… Hot and moist conditions are the ideal breeding ground for bacteria, mold and mildew. Dust mites and cockroaches thrive. Health concerns include headaches, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, itchy eyup and upset symptoms of asthma and allergies, and there are concerns with musty odors and detriment to wood furnishings, i noticed condensate running down my window pains, discoloring the sills and leading to mildew. I found mold growing on my leather shoes and wallets and had concerns with wooden doors not closing regularly. I lowered the temperature control and ran the air conditioner non stop. It added to the wear and tear on the cooling system. The increased energy usage added up to much higher electric bills. Unfortunately, I didn’t solve the problem, over-cooling the home didn’t get rid of the moisture. I purchased a portable dehumidifier, but it simply created a lot of work. If I failed to empty the reservoir multiple ties per day, the sitting water odored unpleasant and presented a health concern. I finally contacted a local Tuscaloosa Heating and A/C business for a recommendation. He recommended that I install a whole-home dehumidifier. The dehumidifier pulls water out of the air as it passes through the air conditioner! When the humidity level is kept within an ideal range, the air feels cooler at a higher temperature control setting. The home is more comfortable and I pay less in yearly utility bills. I sleep better at night and have more energy during the day. The dehumidifier runs quietly and requires only annual maintenance.
