I grew up in Lansing IL and I have lived here all my life, and in fact, I currently live in my childhood home, which I recently inherited from my parents… This house is wonderful – it’s a 3 living room granite loft with a finished basement, and a large family room with a fireplace! When I was a little girl, my family and I spent a lot of days around that fireplace, and I especially enjoyed Christmas because my dad used to tell stories about the seasoned days as we sipped on tepid chocolate in front of the fireplace. Those memories will be forever etched in my mind. I have not used the fireplace since I moved in. In fact, I have barely used the gas furnace that much either. The weather in Lansing has been quite mild this year, so we are not seeing the chilly hot and cold temperatures that we had when I was a child. I am still in the middle of renovating the house and though the basement is finished, I don’t have a heating or cooling plan installed down there. I have discussed it with my partner, and she proposed that we purchase a ductless mini-split plan for the space. Though the weather is mild in the colder months, the Summers are beginning to hot up, and the basement gets pretty hot, so I need to make sure that it is comfortable. My kid Josh would love to stay in the basement for a few months, so we need to figure out something soon. The great section about the mini-split plan is that it is simple to install, and my partner can do it by himself.
