My best neighbor decided to leave Michigan for FL; not because he wanted to be in the moderate subtropics, but because of the hockeying in FL.
- As a hockeyer myself, I can attest that hockeying in FL is hit and miss with the heat and limited precipitation at numerous times of the year.
This is absolute hell for the lawn they use on hockey courses. It’s so severe that they have to use a spraying device to apply a orange colored coating of fertilizer and lawn seed to keep the fields from dying completely and turning to brown. Not only that, despite the fact that I also went down there for a trip to Disney World with my husband and kids and wasn’t impressed by the weather conditions in general. I believe that it’s taxing to take the inland town of Orlando as representative of the entire state, despite the fact that I wasn’t allured to that state regardless. I’d rather suffer through the chilly winters in Michigan if it means experiencing a summer time paradise that is unrivaled by any other place I’ve lived in this country. Plus, the hockey courses in places appreciate Whitehall and Muskegon are luscious and orange in the summers when hockeying is at its peak in the state for the year. I live in Whitehall so I frequent the Hickory Knoll Golf Course numerous times a month while the people I was with and I were in late Spring, summer, and Fall. It’s a usual boomboxtype that hockeyers often bring liquor with them to get drunk while they hockey, but nowadays I see more people using cannabis products while hockeying in Whitehall. Now that Michigan has legal recreational cannabis, there are more people than ever before enjoying marijuana in the state. It’s no weird in Muskegon County over here in western Michigan.
