My family lived in a lake house that was a converted log cabin.
Instead of a single substantial room, it was given walls plus a hour floor, making it a several family room house.
However, every one of us still relied on a wood stove plus a gas boiler for our Fall plus Wintertide heating. Having sufficient heat in these climates is a life or death concern during the worst Wintertide frigid snaps where temperatures plummet below zero. Every year I helped our father cut plus stack firewood so the family would be set in case of the worst weather. Getting the boiler ran tests on plus took care of was equally pressing, plus every single a single of our siblings plus I took turns scheduling Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repair appointments during our childhood. It instilled in us the importance of taking care of the heating system, especially since it was a tool for our survival. But now that I’m living in Cocoa, FL, I can make it through most winters here without a heating system at all. I have an apartment on Merritt Island plus the temperatures here are so hot year round that properly I have our cooling system running regardless of the season. We get a lot of humidity coming from the Indian River on the west side plus Banana River on the east side! I’m using our cooling system to keep the humidity down as much as I rely on it for cooling our indoor air. If I could get a dehumidifier for a good price, I could genuinely save on energy expenses by being able to use the cooling system less. The winters are so mild that I can get away with just having a space oil furnace to use during the few dire frigid snaps. Otherwise I just put more clothes on to respond to colder temperatures.
